Yangon Entry Requirements

Yangon Entry Requirements

Visa, immigration, and customs information

Important Notice Entry requirements can change at any time. Always verify current requirements with official government sources before traveling.
The doors of the aircraft open at Yangon International Airport and the first thing that hits you is the warm, wet air laced with frangipani, jet-fuel, and the sweet sting of cheroot smoke drifting from duty-free. Immigration queues wind beneath slow ceiling fans that clack like cicadas while harsh fluorescents bounce off glossy tiles. Officers in olive-green uniforms sit under framed portraits of national heroes, slamming stamps onto passports with a decisive thud that echoes through the hall. Before you board, check that your passport still has six months of life left and that you can show onward travel within the permitted window, airlines love to ask for proof at the gate. If your papers are straight, Yangon's entry drill is painless: a quick mug-shot at the e-gates for eVisa holders, then cool glass fingerprint scanners against your skin. The baggage hall smells of strong coffee from a kiosk tucked beside the belts, metal squeaks as cases slide down, and taxi touts wave laminated placards like semaphore flags. Once customs releases you, the night swallows you, horns blaring, street stalls glowing orange over quail and squid, and porters pressing tiny cups of salty-sour tamarind juice into your hand with wide grins.
